National Novel Writing Month

Free-writeWell, I’ve been MIA for a while, so I wanted to write a quick post about where I’ve been – right here in front of my computer.  I just haven’t been on this blog….

November is National Novel Writing Month, or Nanowrimo for short.  Nanowrimo is an 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that encourages novel writing internationally and in all age groups.  It is based in San Francisco and has many programs to help people write those books that they have always wanted to publish.  During the month of November, the goal is to write 50,000 words within 30 days.  Sounds quite challenging, doesn’t it?  Well, I’ve written over 12,000 words so far so I’m on track.  It’s actually a lot of fun!  If you have friends that like to write, it makes it even more fun as you can help each other stay on track.  The nanowrimo website also has forums where you can talk to other writers and an inspiration page in case you get stuck in a rut.  It’s an awesome way for writers to stay motivated.  For more information, visit http://www.nanowrimo.org.

As for me, I am writing a fiction novel about life in the 1800’s and early 1900’s in a small town in Kentucky.  My grandparents lived in a small Kentucky town, and I have heard so many funny stories over the years that I decided to use them in my novel.  I’m having a blast!  Go ahead and give it a try!  In the meantime, I will probably post sporadically here until December.  I will let you all know if I make the 50,000 word count 🙂

Blessings and enjoy a wonderful Thanksgiving!

I love your cartoon. It is hilarious. I saw this on my way to write again. Novels take time.
